Background
MercadoLibre is Latin America’s largest online marketplace. It connects 85 million online buyers with 9 million online sellers – to buy and sell goods, to facilitate payments, and to coordinate logistics. It operates in 18 countries and enables more than $50 billion USD in gross merchandise volume annually.
MercadoLibre offers several services to make it as easy as possible for people to buy and sell items on its platform:
Mercado Libre lists products on its digital marketplace and charges a selling fee that is typically 12-16% of each item sold. The seller’s fee varies by country and product category.
Mercado Envios provides two-day shipping for most orders. The company’s internal logistical infrastructure includes warehouses, airplanes, and delivery vans. This is also available for retailers selling off-platform.
Mercado Pago facilitates the order payments. Its digital wallet provides a convenient way for buyers to make purchases and a trustable way for sellers to immediately get paid. This is also available for retailers selling off-platform.
Mercado Ads allows sellers or external advertisers to promote their products on the marketplace webpages. They can pay either for impressions or for clicks.
Mercado Credito provides working capital loans to sellers or consumer loans to creditworthy buyers.
Mercado Shops offers online storefronts for merchants, who would like MercadoLibre to take care of hosting and maintaining their digital presence.
